Report: Bama, FSU among the unblocked in Golson’s transfer quest

Everett Golson Day at CFT continues unabated, with yet another update on this year’s “it” quarterback transfer.

According to Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com, Golson has submitted a list of 10 schools he’s interested in to Notre Dame’s compliance office. Thus far, the Irish have not blocked Golson from looking into any of those 10.

Among the 10 schools reportedly under consideration are Florida State, Alabama, South Carolina and one unnamed Pac-12 program. Both Oregon State ad Washington have been mentioned as long-shot possibilities to land Golson.

No 2015 Irish opponents are on the list; overnight it was reported that Notre Dame would not sign off on a Golson transfer to any school on this year’s schedule. All 10 of those schools are also members of Power Five conferences.

Earlier Monday, 247Sports.com reported that, "[b]arring a last-minute change of heart or any influence from elsewhere, [Florida State’s] where he’s headed.” Previously, his home-state South Carolina and Georgia had been labeled the front-runners.

If Golson were to attempt to transfer to an SEC school, he would need a waiver from the conference due to his 2013 suspension for academic misconduct.

Then there’s another issue related to the SEC, as relayed by McMurphy:

The SEC also restricts student-athletes from transferring to an SEC school with less than two years eligibility unless their previous school discontinued their sport or without a hardship circumstance.
