Steve Spurrier says Everett Golson won’t be added to Gamecocks’ coop

Another day, another wrinkle in the Everett Golson transfer saga. As of now, Steve Spurrier says South Carolina is not in the mix to add the former Notre Dame quarterback to the roster.

Spurrier confirmed the Gamecocks were not pursuing Golson to Josh Kendall of The State. South Carolina was a popular possible destination for Golson, a South Carolina native, when he made the decision to transfer from Notre Dame, although any school in the SEC interested in adding Golson would have to file a waiver due to Golson’s academic past.

We are not pursuing (Everett Golson),” Spurrier told The State Wednesday morning. “We are not really in that.”

Golson will be eligible to play FBS football this fall as a graduate transfer. Notre Dame athletics director Jack Swarbrick is on record saying the school is not blocking any possible transfer destinations for the quarterback that led the Irish to the BCS Championship Game in 2012. Golson missed the 2013 season as a result of academic troubles but returned to the Notre Dame football program for the 2014 season. Golson has reportedly visited Florida State and Florida this week.
