Andre Sims graduates, then gets release from Mich. St.

Two rather significant life events within the last week will culminate with Andre Sims Jr. playing somewhere other than Michigan State in 2015.

Last Friday, Sims graduated with a degree in journalism. Four days later, the school announced that the wide receiver has been granted a release from his MSU scholarship, and that the he plans to transfer elsewhere to finish out his collegiate career.

No reason was given for Sims’ decision.

“The fact Andre completed his degree in four years is a testament to his work ethic,” head coach Mark Dantonio said in a statement. “He’s a quality person, and we wish him the best of luck as he enters his final season of competition.”

Because Sims will be a graduate transfer, and as long as he enters a grad program not offered at MSU, he’ll be eligible to play immediately in 2015 if he opts for another FBS program.

Sims was a three-star member of the Spartans 2011 recruiting class coming out of high school in Georgia, rated by Rivals.com was the No. 63 receiver in the country. During his time in East Lansing, Sims totaled 13 receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown. He also returned 27 punts for 224 yards (8.3 avg.).
