Wanting to play closer to Ohio home, OT Josh Krok transfers from UK

We’ve spent a good chunk of the weekend discussing various transfers, so might as well end it the same way.

Mark Stoops, a native Ohioan, has made significant recruiting inroads in his home state during his two seasons as Kentucky’s head coach. One of those inroads led to the signing of mammoth offensive lineman Josh Krok.

That road, though, may lead back from whence he came as Krok has decided to transfer from UK, 247Sports.com first reported and a school official subsequently confirmed to the Lexington Herald-Leader. The recruiting website wrote that “Krok’s decision to transfer centered on a desire to be closer to home and was not a result of any hard feelings toward the football staff.”

Krok, who went to high school in Niles, roughly 170 miles northeast of Columbus, held offers from such Ohio schools as Akron, Cincinnati, Kent State and Toledo. Akron and Kent of the MAC would seem to be, if the reason for his departure is accurate, the most logical options as both are less than an hour from his hometown.

Listed at 6-8, 317 pounds, Krok was a three-star member of UK’s 2014 recruiting class, rated as the No. 39 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 24 player at any position in the state of Ohio. Injuries sustained during summer camp derailed the coaching staff’s plans for immediate playing time as a true freshman.

Krok, who took a redshirt for 2014, would likely have to sit out the 2015 season if his ultimate destination is another FBS program.
