Report: While ‘they think Diddy’s a jerk,’ UCLA wants case dropped

Yep, another day, another detour into the depths of Diddyland.

In the latest development involving the famous father of a seldom-used UCLA defensive back and the Bruins coaching staff, TMZ.com is reporting that the football program has decided that the best tack for all involved is to have the case against Sean Combs dropped and all sides move on. Combs, Bruin Justin Combs’ dad, was arrested on multiple charges earlier this week after allegedly assaulting strength & conditioning coach Sal Alosi and at least one other football staffer.

While Combs claimed self-defense, and the program did not want police involved, someone in the program called the campus cops, who viewed a security tape of the incident before arresting Combs. The hip-hop mogul, who has the support of his son, was ultimately charged with a total of five felonies.

From the celebrity gossip website’s latest report:

Sources directly connected with the team tell TMZ, the coaches are regretful the situation escalated to an arrest. They think Diddy is a jerk who they’d like to make persona non grata, but they don’t want to make this a courtroom spectacle, largely because it would be bad for the team.

...

We’re told head coach Jim Mora does not want a criminal prosecution. The interns who were present and allegedly threatened could press the case, but if Mora is against it they would probably follow suit.

Whether or not the charges will be dropped is out of the hands of the football program, however. The case will be reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, the entity that will decide whether or not the case will move forward. Even if the alleged victims decline to cooperate, the DA’s office will have the videotape at its disposal.

Diddy’s first court appearance is currently scheduled for July 13.
