Expected to possibly contribute as a true freshman at Texas A&m, Jay Bradford will instead have to contend with a medical issue before he actually sees the field for the Aggies.
According to multiple media outlets, rumors have been swirling throughout the week that Bradford is facing health concerns, with some of the speculation leaning toward it being quite serious. All of the chatter regarding the running back compelled Kevin Sumlin to release a statement through the university that somewhat addresses Bradford’s status.
“Jay Bradford had a medical condition arise this week and due to federal privacy regulations Texas A&M athletics is unable to comment without the consent of the young man or his family,” the head coach stated. “The health and well-being of Jay is our utmost concern and we will do everything we can to assist Jay and his family through this process.”
A three-star member of A&M 2015 recruiting class, Bradford was rated as the No. 37 running back in the country and the No. 61 player at any position in the talent-rich state of Texas. He signed with A&M after receiving offers from, among others, Baylor, Texas and Texas Tech.
According to Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle, Sumlin said last month that “the speedster Bradford might already be the fastest player on the team.” That’s quite the endorsement for a true freshman given the collection of speed Sumlin & Company has collected over the past couple of years.
