Update: TT’s Kyle Heffron sustains ruptured spleen in car wreck

Thoughts and prayers are bouncing off the vast expanses of the Internet for a playing member of the Texas Tech football program.

Lubbock NBC affiliate KCBD is reporting Wednesday afternoon that long-snapper Kyle Heffron sustained serious injuries in a single-car accident earlier in the day. Police told the television station that Heffron was ejected from the white pickup truck he was driving after it slammed into an underpass.

There were no details available as to the exact nature of the injuries.

The good news, however, is that, per the station, Heffron is currently listed in satisfactory condition at a local hospital. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury was scheduled to appear along with other Big 12 coaches at the so-called “ESPN car wash” but was described as a late cancellation.

Heffron has been a part of the Red Raiders’ scout team each of the past two seasons and has yet to see any game action.

UPDATED 4:08 p.m. ET: A Heffron famil member took to Twitter to offer up a couple of details regarding the player’s injuries and condition...

... while Kingsbury released a brief statement addressing the situation.

“We continue to gather information on Kyle’s accident this morning and obviously our primary concern is his health and well-being. We’ve been in contact with Kyle’s family. We all expect that he’ll make a full recovery soon.”
