SMU the ‘likely’ landing spot for Mizzou transfer David Johnson

It was just this past Tuesday we mentioned that David Johnson is one of two Missouri defensive backs who have decided to transfer out of the Tigers football program. Two days later, Johnson could already have a new collegiate football home.

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, the Kansas City Star reports that Johnson “is likely to transfer to SMU.” As Johnson has already graduated from Mizzou, he would be eligible to play immediately for the Mustangs in 2015.

This upcoming season would be the cornerback’s final season of eligibility.

Johnson was a three-star member of the Tigers’ 2011 recruiting class who took a redshirt as a true freshman and then didn’t play in 2012. The past two seasons, he played in a total of 19 games — 12 in 2013, seven in 2014.

As for the decision to part ways with Mizzou, the fact that he was buried at No. 3 on the depth chart likely played a role.
