After two failed attempts at Power Five programs, Quinta Funderburk has decided to give it the old college try a third time at a much lower level of football.
On his Instagram account late this past week, Funderburk announced that he will play for Norfolk State in 2015. As he will be both a graduate transfer and dropping down to an FCS school, the wide receiver will be able to use his final season of eligibility in 2015.
In March of this year, head coach Scott Shafer confirmed that, after talking to the player’s family, Funderburk would not be returning to his Syracuse program for the 2015 season, saying that "[h]opefully he’ll find a good opportunity somewhere.”
In May of 2012, Funderburk announced that he would be transferring from Arkansas to Syracuse. After sitting out the 2012 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, Funderburk caught three passes for 50 yards in 2013. In 2014, he didn’t catch a pass.
As a three-star member of Razorbacks’ 2011 recruiting class, Funderburk was rated as the No. 48 receiver in the country and the No. 9 player at any position in the state of Virginia by Rivals.com. It was announced in early May after his freshman season, in which he didn’t appear in any games, that the 6-3, 210-pound receiver was granted his release from his UA scholarship so he could be closer to his home in Virginia.
The move to the Spartans actually gets him back in his home state.
