Syracuse dismisses leading receiver from 2013

A productive 2013 season led to high hopes within the Syracuse football program when it came to Ashton Broyld. Unfortunately, injuries and, ultimately, the player himself derailed the senior’s career with the Orange.

Tuesday morning, head coach Scott Shafer announced that Broyld has been dismissed from his football team. The only reason given, of course, was violating unspecified team rules.

In 2013, Broyld led the team in both receptions (52) and receiving yards (452). Broyld was the Orange’s leading receiver through the first three games last season before a lower-leg injury caused him to miss eight of the last nine games.

Even as he’s listed as a running back, Broyld finishes his ‘Cuse career with more receptions and receiving yards (74, 679) than carries and rushing yards (38, 173). Oddly enough, his lone career touchdown came on the ground.
