Texas lineman Terrell Cuney cited for shoplifting

On the same day his players reported for summer camp, Texas’ Charlie Strong has a little off-field issue to deal with involving one of the reportees.

247Sports.com was the first to report that UT offensive lineman Terrell Cuney was arrested early Wednesday morning for shoplifting, with the Austin American-Statesman later reporting that the alleged shoplifting occurred at a local Walmart. Brian Davis of the Statesman subsequently clarified that Cuney was cited and not arrested, “but the citation is considered an arrest.”

Strong, who addressed the media ahead of the start of camp regarding his team in general, said specifically that while Cuney will remain with the team, “there’s some things he needs to do first” before he’s all the way in the clear with the football program. Strong is famous -- or infamous to some -- for his “Five Core Values,” one of which is not stealing.

A three-star member of Strong’s first Longhorn recruiting class last year, Cuney was rated as the No. 13 center in the country and the No. 74 player at any position in the state of Texas. He took a redshirt as a true freshman.

Exiting spring practice, Cuney was expected to compete for a backup role along the line.
