Sister of UGA LBs coach victim in suspected double homicide

Sadly, tragedy struck the Georgia football program overnight.

According to al.com, Rasha Breann Sherrer was one of the victims in what’s believed to be a double homicide earlier this week in Locust Fork, Ala. The 36-year-old Sherrer is the sister of Georgia linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer.

Head coach Mark Richt confirmed the tragic development Wednesday, saying that Sherrer and his wife had left Athens to be with family and would not be at practice today. The assistant, though, is expected to be back at practice Thursday.

“Whatever he needs to do to help, just be there for his family, we want him to do that,” Richt said. “There’s no time limit on that. Whatever you’ve gotta do, go do it. We’ll handle it till you come back.”

According to reports, the bodies of Sherrer and 43-year-old Gary “Sambo” Hazelrig were found inside their home, each shot an unspecified number of times. They were last seen alive Monday morning, and their bodies were discovered Tuesday afternoon after family and friends had been unable to get into contact with them. No arrests have been made and no motive has been uncovered.

Kevin Sherrer in his second season with the Bulldogs as Sam linebackers/Star position coach. Our prayers and condolences go out to him and his family for their loss.
