There was a gathering of college athletics big wigs today, where the D1 Athletics Directors Association appointed a new president and CEO (it’s Tom McMillen for those who care) and gave Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby a chance to spread his specific brand of optimism.
First, Bowlsby sounded the anarchy alarms, saying players would strike an important game in the near future.Bowlsby: “Mark my words” -- time will come when there will be big game and the athletes will say “we’re not going to play. We will see that”

A college basketball transfer rate somewhat mirroring the general student population is an embarrassment.
And, most strangely, anyone who plays football on Tuesday nights doesn’t care about education.

The comment was especially odd considering the Big 12 regularly plays on Thursdays, and every other sport plays on weeknights regularly.
Apparently, though, there’s something different about playing football on a weeknight that just makes a mockery of education. Or something like that.
