USC’s win over Cal that kept the Trojans in the vicinity of the Pac-12 South race could prove to be a costly one.
While throwing a block during the course of the win, JuJu Smith-Schuster sustained an injury to his right hand. It was ultimately determined that the star wide receiver had fractured a bone or bones in the hand.
Smith-Schuster was sidelined for the remainder of the contest, although it wasn’t for a lack of effort the receiver wasn’t able to return.
While Smith-Schuster said he will be placed in a cast at some point, he stated that he will be able to play with it. Whether the football program’s medical personnel agrees with that thought process remains to be seen.
Smith-Schuster is far and away the Trojans’ leading receiver, with his 52 receptions and 956 receiving yards easily tops on the team. The next closest is Stephen Mitchell‘s 17 catches and Adoree Jackson‘s 316 yards.
