TCU head coach Gary Patterson says quarterback Trevone Boykin will not start today’s Big 12 contest with Oklahoma. Foster Sawyer will get the start for the Horned Frogs as they look to find a way to keep their Big 12 title hopes alive.
Boykin’s status all week leading up to the game against the Sooners was in doubt all week due to the quarterback’s ankle injury taken during a win against Kansas. TCU will also be without star wide receiver Josh Doctson, who has already been ruled out for each of TCU’s final regular season games due to a wrist injury.
Sawyer filled in for the injured Boykin last week against Kansas. He completed just one of his seven pass attempts for 42 yards and a score. Sawyer also rushed eight times for 34 yards in TCU’s 23-17 win against the Jayhawks. Things should be considerably tougher tonight, as Oklahoma is surging right now and coming off a big win on the road against Baylor. The Sooners also have the Big 12’s best pass defense, allowing just 186.4 yards per game through the air and 13 touchdowns compared to 14 interceptions.
TCU visits Oklahoma at 8 p.m. ET.
