South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp was introduced to South Carolina fans during halftime of Saturday’s men’s basketball game between the Gamecocks and Missouri, and he took the opportunity to deliver a promise to fans about the future of the football program.
“I can only guarantee you one thing. We’re not going to get out-worked,” Muschamp said, before closing with a “Spurs up” to draw a round of applause from the faithful fans. Members of Muschamp’s coaching staff were also introduced to fans for the first time in a public setting.
Muschamp also met with members of the media during halftime of the basketball game, which allowed the new head coach to update the status of redshirt freshman defensive end Shameik Blackshear.
“They believe so,” Muschamp replied when asked if Blackshear is expected to play football again, per John Whittle of The Big Spur. “But again, let’s just worry about the young man’s health at this time.”
Blackshear was shot multiple times in the lower and upper body outside an apartment complex in mid-December. Despite being the victim of multiple gunshot wounds, Blackshear was expected to be OK in the long-term after recovering from the wounds. It is not expected Blackshear will face any disciplinary actuion from the South Carolina program as he is believed to have been a victim in this shooting incident.
