With controversy swirling yet again around Maty Mauk, one of the quarterback’s Missouri teammates has come to his defense.
Very late Monday night, a video purportedly showing Mauk doing a line of what appears to be cocaine surfaced and went viral. Shortly thereafter, Mizzou announced that, for the third time in four months, Mauk had been indefinitely suspended from the football program.
An unidentified Tiger player, while confirming that it was indeed Mauk in the clip, also confirmed to Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the video was taken two years ago. Matter writes that Mauk “has since addressed his drug problem.”
From Matter’s report:
It was also confirmed that Mauk’s first suspension, which began in late September and lasted four games, was related to a failed drug test. “The team suspected he’d been using drugs and administered the test.” Matter wrote.
In the statement announcing Mauk’s latest suspension, the university said that they “are currently gathering information regarding the video in question.”
UPDATED 12:55 p.m. ET: Missouri wide receiver Keyon Dilosa put his name to a public defense of Mauk, taking to Twitter to push back against the release of the video in question.
