Michigan lands verbal from Christian McCaffrey’s brother, a four-star 2017 QB

The latest commitment to Michigan’s next recruiting class has a surname very familiar to college football fans, particularly those out on the West Coast.

Monday night, Colorado high school quarterback Dylan McCaffrey announced that he has decided to commit to play his college football at the University of Michigan. McCaffrey is the younger brother of Christian McCaffrey, the rising junior Stanford running back who was the runnerup to 2015 Heisman winner Derrick Henry. His dad, of course, is former Denver Broncos standout Ed McCaffrey.

The quarterbacking McCaffrey is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 6 dual-threat signal caller in the Class of 2017, while 247Sports.com has him rated as the No. 2 pro-style prospect in that class. Overall, the latter recruiting website has him rated as the No. 45 player in its national composite rankings.

Given his position and lineage to go along with his 6-5, 200-pound frame, McCaffrey had received offers from, among others, Arizona State, Duke, LSU, Nebraska, Penn State and UCLA. According to both recruiting sites cited above, McCaffrey had not received an offer from his brother’s school, although most observers viewed the Cardinal the next-best bet behind the Wolverines.

After much consideration, I am Very proud to announce I have committed to the University of Michigan! #GoBlue pic.twitter.com/spHPcFrQb5
