Miami tight end Jerome Washington will not return to Coral Gables and seeks to ply his craft elsewhere, the program announced Wednesday.
“Jerome is a wonderful young man and I wish him the very best with his future endeavors,” said head coach Mark Richt in a statement. “I fully support his decision to step away from football and I look forward to watching his career path unfold.”
Washington, a rising sophomore, appeared in nine games in 2015, but did not record a statistic. He arrived to the U by way of Mercer County Community College.
“Playing football at the University of Miami was a wonderful experience, but at this time, I feel it is in my best interest to step away from the game,” Washington said. “I can’t thank this institution enough for allowing me the opportunity to play college football at the highest level.”
