Urban Meyer offers his endorsement for GOP hopeful John Kasich

With the Ohio primary coming up, Ohio governor and GOP ticket hopeful John Kasich received a noteworthy endorsement from the Buckeye state. That endorsement came from the head Buckeye himself, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.

“As a true supporter of what you stand for – now that I really know what you stand for – we’d like to tell you we wish you guys the best,” Meyer said Thursday, per Cleveland.com. “Go win this darn thing.”

Meyer stepping foot in the political ring is a bit of a surprise given his previous comments about his take on politics. The national championship head coach has made a point not to get too involved with the political takes in the public eye, so his endorsement for the Ohio governor may be a rarity we should not get used to seeing too often. If Kasich were the governor of any other state, Meyer may not have offered his public support.

“My job description is very clear and that’s to coach Ohio State football and the focus is on 17 to 18 to 22-year-olds,” Meyer said last month, again per Cleveland.com. “I have strong beliefs, but I’m not going to share that with you guys. I don’t think that’s appropriate.”

Sports and politics often blend like oil and water, but there have been discussions in the past on whether or not some of the more notable sports figures should take a more active role in the campaign season. Of course, democrats buy tickets too, right?

Meanwhile, up north, Jim Harbaugh suggested Judge Judy should be considered to fill the vacant spot on the Supreme Court by Barack Obama. Maybe sometimes sports people should stick to sports.
