Miami names Matt Doherty as Director of Player Personnel

Miami added one more piece to the football staff to work with new head coach Mark Richt on Friday. Matt Doeherty is returning to his alma mater to take on the role of director of player personnel for the Hurricanes, it was announced Friday.

“I’m very excited to be able to add Matt to our support staff,” Richt said in a released statement. “His expertise, work ethic, and love for Miami will bless our recruiting operation.”

“This is an incredible opportunity, and I am so grateful to be back in South Florida,” Doherty said. “The University of Miami is the most special place in the world to me. I am so excited for Canes fans to see what Coach Richt has in store for this program. It’s time to get to work.”

Doherty comes to Miami after serving as a recruiting coordinator for Jim Harbaugh up north at Michigan. Miami is his home though. Before joining Harbaugh’s football staff in Ann Arbor, Doherty was a part of the Miami staff for four years under former head coach Al Golden. He also has some NFL experience, which can always come in handy in developing players hoping to take their game to the next level. Doherty was a scouting assistant for the New England Patriots in 2009 and 2010.
