Nick Chubb ‘overachieving in rehab,’ still sidelined for spring

There’s some good news and some not-so-unexpected news on the Nick Chubb recovery front.

In the latest update regarding the star Georgia running back, first-year head coach Kirby Smart revealed while he has Chubb “dead on schedule” in his recovery from knee surgery, head athletic trainer Ron Courson would say “he’s probably a little bit ahead of schedule as far as what we expect of him.” Perhaps the most encouraging news from Smart is that Chubb, seen HERE showing tangible signs of improvement last month, is beginning to do some cutting instead of being restricted to simple straight-ahead running.

That said, Chubb will not, as expected, take part in team drills during spring practice.

“He will not be involved in any team drills throughout spring, but we’re excited about where he is and he’s progressed really well,” said Smart. “He is a kid, obviously he overachieves anyway, but he’s overachieving in rehab as well.”

Chubb tore several ligaments in his left knee in the Oct. 10 game against Tennessee, then underwent surgery two weeks later. The football program is hopeful Chubb will be 100-percent healthy for the start of summer camp in a little over four months, but they’re not ready to state that with any degree of certainty.
