Clemson corner popped for pot gets Dabo’s boot

An off-field incident has prematurely brought an end to one Clemson player’s on-field career, at least when it comes to the Tigers.

Last week, Kaleb Chalmers was arrested on multiple drug-related charges. Earlier this week, the freshman cornerback’s head coach confirmed that the player has been dismissed from the football program.

He is no longer with us,” Dabo Swinney explained. “Hopefully he will finish school and have an opportunity to grow from his mistakes and actions. He’s a very talented young man. It’s always disappointing when you have someone that embarrasses your program. That’s kind of the end of the road for him here at Clemson.”

Chalmers had been competing for a starting job in the Tigers’ secondary this spring prior to both separating a shoulder and his legal missteps. A three-star member of Clemson’s 2015 recruiting class, Chalmers took a redshirt as a true freshman.
