Less than a week after committing to Auburn, No. 1 2017 JUCO WR decommits from Auburn

Well that certainly didn’t take long.

On July 1, Brandon Martin, the top-rated junior college wide receiver in the Class of 2017, took to Twitter to announce that he had officially committed to Auburn. Exactly five days later, the same player took to the same social media site to say, essentially, never mind.

After meeting with my family and coaches I am decommiting from Auburn to focus on academics and football

Just hours before announcing his decommitment, Martin, when asked by al.com why he had committed to the Tigers in the first place, offered up the following.

“I felt like I was at home and they do everything as a team and as a family.”

OK then.

In addition to AU, Martin holds offers from, among others, Arizona State, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa State, Louisville and Mississippi State.

The 6-4, 205-pound Martin signed with LSU coming out of high school in Texas in 2015, but failed to qualify academically. He spent the 2015 season at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Wherever Martin ultimately lands, he’s expected to enroll at AU in January, and would then have three seasons of eligibility remaining, plus a redshirt year.
