Injury-riddled Vols’ defense loses CB Cam Sutton for ‘extended period’

Tennessee’s defense will resemble a M*A*S*H unit heading into a key SEC East showdown with Florida next Saturday.

In this Saturday’s closer-than-expected win over Ohio, Cam Sutton went down with an ankle injury. Following the game, Butch Jones confirmed that the star cornerback will miss “an extended period of time.”

A general timeline for a return should be known later on this upcoming week.

“I feel for him and his family,” the head coach said. “This is an individual who is a role model for what a student-athlete is and what it takes to prepare, week in and week out. You give me 11 [players like] Cam Sutton, and we will win a lot of football games. It is very unfortunate.”

Sutton has started every game in 2016 and each of the previous three seasons as well. He won’t, though, be lone on the Vols’ sidelines for their annual tilt with the Gators.

UT will face UF without All-SEC CB Cam Sutton, All-SEC LB Darrin Kirkland, possibly others including All-SEC LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin. Yikes.
