Harrison Phillips set to return, start for Stanford vs. UCLA

Fortunately for Stanford, 2016 is not a repeat of Harrison Phillips’ 2015 season.

Phillips’ sustained a knee injury in the season-opening win over Kansas State, and then, coming off a bye in Week 2, missed last Saturday’s win over USC. However, David Shaw said Thursday that the nose tackle has been medically cleared for the Week 4 game against UCLA and will start against the Bruins.

He’s good to go,” the head coach said. “There are no limitations on him. ... I’m excited about where he’s at.”

Coming off a torn ACL that cost him all but one game of the 2015 season, Phillips started the opener against the Wildcats. That marked his first career start.

As a true freshman in 2014, Phillips played in six games, with all of those coming in the second half of the season. He was credited with a pair of sacks in his half-season of work.
