Ohio State can use all the help it can get for its struggling passing game, and one wide receiver who many thought would be unavailable this weekend could take the field instead.
In the Week 9 win over Northwestern, Parris Campbell sustained a sprained ankle. At first blush, it was thought that the injury was significant and could sideline the receiver for an extended period of time.
During a radio spot Thursday night, however, Campbell’s position coach indicated, as the Columbus Dispatch put it, there’s a “good chance” Campbell takes the field for the key Week 10 matchup with Nebraska in Columbus Saturday.
“He looked really good [Wednesday] running around,” receivers coach Zach Smith said. “We’ll see how he feels at game time as far as change of direction and what he’s able to do. He has really killed it in rehab in our training room.”
Urban Meyer somewhat tempered his assistant’s optimism during the same radio show, saying that the sophomore “might give it a go” against the Cornhuskers. That’s progress from earlier in the week when the OSU head coach labeled him as questionable.
Campbell has 10 catches for 99 yards on the season. He’s also viewed as a weapon in the running game as a blocker as well as a ball carrier (three carries for 32 yards and a touchdown), not to mention being the team’s leading kick returner (25.1 yards per return).
