Auburn to start Sean White at QB despite undisclosed injury

Auburn will start Sean White at quarterback for this week’s trip to Georgia despite battling through an undisclosed injury, head coach Gus Malzahn revealed Tuesday.

White did not practice last week, but entered last week’s Vanderbilt game after halftime. He completed 10-of-13 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown, leading the Tigers to a 23-16 win.

“We’re going to be smart with him,” Malzahn told ESPN. “He will practice this week. He’s a tough guy. He showed a lot of guts and a lot of courage last week.”

Of course, it’s impossible to know how tough White is without knowing what injury he’s fighting through.

Still, whatever it is isn’t enough to keep White out of practice this week.

“We’re hoping to get him on the practice field today or tomorrow,” Malzahn said. “He’s done well so far. He’s kind of a quick healer. I’ll know more later in the week, but he is planning on practicing.”

White has taken the reins of the Tigers’ offense in recent weeks -- and seen the Auburn offense take off around him. For the year White is hitting nearly 70 percent of his throws for 9.1 yards per attempt with nine touchdowns against two interceptions. While White has only rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns himself, the offense as a whole ranks No. 3 in rushing nationally at 299.8 yards per game while averaging 5.6 yards per carry.

Roaring back from their 1-2 start, Auburn controls its own destiny in the SEC ahead of road trips to Georgia and Alabama to close their conference season.
