Oklahoma has jumped out over West Virginia and not let up. The Sooners lead the ‘Eers 34-7 at the half in Morgantown.
The Sooners scored touchdowns on five of their seven first half possessions and on one of the two they didn’t — the opening possession of the game — they forced a fumble on West Virginia’s punt return and turned that into a touchdown. It’s been a monster night for OU’s stars: quarterback Baker Mayfield, running backs Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon, and wide receiver Dede Westbrook.
Perine has carried 22 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Mixon has added 14 rushes for 116 yards and a score. Mayfield has only thrown seven times, but turned those limited passes into four completions for 116 yards and two scores. Westbrook has once again been Mayfield’s top target, hauling in two receptions for 100 yards and a score.
While Oklahoma has done everything right, West Virginia has done everything wrong.
The Mountaineers have turned the ball over three times and committed six penalties for 80 yards — including 30 yards of personal fouls on the same play. They’ve coughed the ball up twice inside the OU 5-yard line, and watched Oklahoma turn each fumble into long touchdown drives.
Their only score came with OU owning a 34-0 lead, a 20-yard pass from Skyler Howard to Jovon Durant with 1:13 to play before the half.
West Virginia will receive to open the second half.
