Gus Malzahn expects Sean White back for Auburn’s bowl game

Auburn played its final two games of the season without injured quarterback Sean White, but Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn seems to feel comfortable in thinking he may be available for Auburn’s bowl game.

“Sean hung in there and tried to play against Georgia, but just wasn’t close,” Malzahn said. “We weren’t going to rush him back after that, but he should be fine for the bowl game.”

White was Auburn’s leading passer this season with 1,644 yards and nine touchdowns, with Jeremy Johnson and John Franklin III serving as backups. A shoulder injury has been nagging him this season, forcing him to miss the final two games of the regular season.

Where Auburn’s bowl game is played ha snot been determined as of yet, although there is a strong possibility Auburn could be heading to the Sugar Bowl as the SEC’s next-best available option after Alabama is (likely) selected to play in the College Football Playoff for a third consecutive season. The Sugar Bowl is obligated to take the highest-ranked SEC team available if the SEC champion plays in the College Football Playoff in years the Sugar Bowl is not hosting a semifinal game. Auburn would be paired up with the Big 12 champion of either Oklahoma or Oklahoma State, unless a Big 12 champion is selected to play in the playoff. It appears the Big 12 could be locked out of the playoff this season barring a crazy sequence of events this coming weekend.
