Liberty hires ousted Baylor AD Ian McCaw

The first of the Baylor exiles has found a new place of employment.

Liberty has announced Ian McCaw as its new athletics director, effective immediately.

McCaw served as Baylor’s AD for 13 years, overseeing a resurrected men’s basketball program that has made three Elite Eights under coach Scott Drew, a national championship women’s basketball program, a baseball program that reached the College World Series and, of course, a resurgent football program under Art Briles and a brand new on-campus stadium.

“Ian’s success really speaks for itself,” school president Jerry Falwell (pictured) said in a statement. “You look at what Baylor was able to do during his tenure, it fits perfectly with where we see our sports programs going. This is an exciting time for us.”

Of course, there is the reason McCaw was available in the first place.

McCaw was fired over the spring after the Pepper Hamilton law firm implicated him and the football staff in not reporting multiple sexual assault cases alleged against Bears football players.

“After much reflection and prayer, I have decided that a change in athletics department leadership is in Baylor University’s best interest in order to promote the unity, healing and restoration that must occur in order to move forward,” McCaw said at the time.

As for now?

“Liberty to me represents a pinnacle of professional and personal opportunity where we’re going to be able to develop champions for Christ, develop a world-class student athlete experience, and achieve victory with integrity,” McCaw said. “We certainly want Christian student athletes to grow up dreaming of competing for Liberty University.”
