Georgia Tech’s leading rusher Marcus Marshall announces transfer

Georgia Tech running back Marcus Marshall has announced his intention to transfer through a Twitter post on Wednesday.

“Just want to sincerely thank my teammates, Coach (Paul) Johnson and the coaching staff, and everyone else affiliated with GT for the opportunity to represent GT and for their support over the last 2 years,” Marshall wrote. “At this point, I have decided to move on from the GT football team and will be transferring in January to continue my academic and football career.”

A sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., Marshall finished each of his Georgia Tech seasons as the Ramblin’ Wreck’s leading rusher. Marshall carried 86 times for 654 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman in 2015, and toted the rock 96 times for 624 yards and two scores this fall.

Marshall closed his Georgia Tech career with a bang, notching 143 yards and a touchdown in a win at Virginia Tech, 127 yards and a score in a defeat of Virginia, and 55 yards and a score on nine carries in a triumph over Georgia in Athens last week.

Marshall will not participate in Georgia Tech’s to-be-determined bowl game.
