Utah’s Dominique Hatfield won’t play in Foster Farms Bowl

The up-and-down collegiate career of Dominique Hatfield will end on a down note.

While the senior co-captain traveled with the team to San Francisco, head coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed that Hatfield will not play in Utah’s Foster Farms Bowl matchup with Indiana Wednesday. Other than an unspecified violation of team rules, no reason was given for the cornerback being sidelined for the final game of his collegiate career.

According to Whittingham, the punitive measure had nothing to do with any type of legal issue.

In the summer of 2015, Hatfield was arrested in connection to a robbery, suspended and subsequently dismissed from the football program. In August of that year he was arrested on assault charges unrelated to the first incident; one month later, he was reinstated by Whittingham.

The past three seasons, Hatfield started 28 games for the Utes. His four interceptions in 2015 were tied for third in the Pac-12.
