Peach Bowl Third Quarter Recap: Punts, punts and more punts!

With Alabama leading Washington 17-7 at the halftime break, the Crimson Tide are seeming to be content not to try too many things on offense to keep a foot on the gas pedal. Of course, doing anything against the Washington defense in the third quarter has proven to be quite a difficult challenge as the Huskies defense is doing everything they can to keep this game in reach heading to the fourth quarter. The two teams combined for five punts in the third quarter.

Alabama has been forced to punt all three times they had the football int he third quarter, although a pair of penalties on the opening drive of the half really put a damper on Alabama’s offensive series to open the half. While Washington’s defense is getting the job done, Alabama’s defense has been even better.

Washington had two offensive drives travel backward for a combined loss of eight yards before the Huskies finally got something going on their current offensive drive, which has approached midfield.

Alabama still seems to have the edge with a 10-point lead, but it would be a bit more of a boost of the Crimson Tide can crack Washington’s defense in the fourth quarter. Otherwise, the Huskies may continue to linger around long enough to pull a surprising stunner, if it can move the ball at all.
