RB Danny Dillard leaving the ‘Canes

Buried on the depth chart behind, among others, All-American candidate Duke Johnson, Danny Dillard has decided to take his leave of Coral Gables.

Confirming rumors that were making the rounds Monday, Miami acknowledged Tuesday morning that the running back has decided to leave the UM football program.  No reason was given for the departure, although “placement on the depth chart” would likely be a good place to start.

It’s unknown to where the Venice, Fla., native will transfer to continue his playing career.

Dillard was a three-star member of UM’s 2012 recruiting class, rated as the No. 98 player in the state of Florida.  He redshirted his true freshman season last year.

Behind Johnson, Dallas Crawford and Eduardo Clements, Dillard would’ve entered the 2013 season at least No. 4 in the running back pecking order.

Whether he left on his own accord or was given the silent boot is unclear, but Miami defensive end Kelvin Cain is no longer with the team. Hurricanes running back Eduardo Clements‘ season is done as well, although the reason is more definitive.

Sort of.

A UM spokesperson confirmed to media members Saturday morning that Clements is done for the season with an injury, although exactly what the injury is has not been specified.

Clements is Miami’s third-leading rusher on the year with 70 yards on 16 attempts and a pair of touchdowns. Duke Johnson and Mike James will continue to get the bulk of the carries for the Hurricanes.
