Big Ten Media Day: Miller, Abdullah, Gordon, Diggs heading to Chicago

The ACC was not the only conference to announce which players will be heading to the conference media day circuit in the next few weeks. The Big Ten released its list of players that will be making the trip to Chicago for the Big Ten’s media day, the first as a 14-member conference with the additions of Maryland and Rutgers. With Maryland on board, that means a chance for Big Ten media to get to know some of the new faces in the crowd, like Maryland wide receiver Stefon Diggs, already one of the best playmakers in the conference.

The Big Ten media day event will include the familiar faces as well, of course, like Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon, Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah, Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner and Michigan State safety Kurtis Drummond.

The Big Ten’s media day event is scheduled for July 28-29 in Chicago. Here is the full rundown of Big Ten players appearing at Big Ten media day and luncheon, as released by the Big Ten Thursday.

If you like a long read, here is Maryland’s latest injury report

Every team has injuries, but what is happening with Maryland is something else.

Five offensive players who started last week for the Terrapins will be out for this weekend’s game against Clemson. Even if Maryland was at full strength it may have been a difficult position to try to knock off Clemson, with the Tigers looking to bounce back after a demoralizing blowout loss at home last weekend to Florida State on the national stage. Maryland may not even be at two-thirds or three-fourths strength this weekend.

Nine players are out for the season including Maryland’s top two wide receivers, Stefon Diggs and Deon Young. A total of 12 additional players are listed out for the Clemson game, including starting quarter CJ Brown and leading rusher Brandon Ross.

Here is the full Maryland injury report for this weekend, courtesy of CSN Baltimore:

Terps lose starting corner for up to two months

Maryland went into Week 2 without one of its top cover corners. Unfortunately, that’s something the Terps will be forced to get used to moving forward.

Jeremiah Johnson, head coach Randy Edsall said Sunday, will miss anywhere from seven to eight weeks due to injury. Johnson fractured a toe during the season-opening win against FIU, and missed the Terps’ win over Old Dominion this past weekend.

A seven-week timeline would have Johnson returning for an Oct. 26 date with pass-strong Clemson. Further on down the prognosis line would get Johnson back, after a bye week, for Syracuse (Nov. 9) and/or Virginia Tech (Nov. 16).

The good news, at least as far as a speedier return is concerned, is that Johnson will not need surgery.

In 2012, Johnson started all 12 games and led the team in pass breakups with eight. He also added five tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.
