You can scratch Johnny Stanton off the Nebraska depth chart at quarterback. Stanton was among the players confirmed to no longer be a part of the Huskers program Thursday by the university, as he has chosen to transfer to a new football program for the 2015 season.
“Johnny Stanton informed me this afternoon that he has chosen to transfer to another institution to continue his college career,” Nebraska coach Mike Riley said in a press release (via Omaha World-Herald. “Johnny is an outstanding young man and we wish him the very best moving forward.”
Stanton was a three-star recruit in Nebraska’s Class of 2013, according to Rivals. Last season, behind incumbent starter for 2015 Tommy Armstrong (and sophomore Ryker Fyfe), Stanton appeared in just two games, in which he completed his only pass completion for a gain of six yards.
In addition to the loss of Stanton, Nebraska has also confirmed wide receiver Glenn Irons is no longer a part of the program as well.
