After reports emerged nearly a month ago that Carl Pelini may join younger brother Bo’s staff at Youngstown State, the Penguins made the move official by announcing the full coaching staff on Tuesday.
A Youngstown State graduate, Pelini served as Bo’s defensive coordinator at Nebraska from 2008-11 before leaving to take over at Florida Atlantic. While the Youngstown State release states simply that he “was with the program for two seasons,” we all know it was more than that. Pelini was fired during the tail end of the 2013 season for failure to report the the conduct of a staff member, though it was clear the illegal drug use didn’t help.
In addition to brother Carl, Bo Pelini has brought Ron Brown (running backs), Brian Crist (wide receivers), Mike Brey (tight ends/special teams), T.J. Hollowell (linebackers) and Tim Marlowe (assistant defensive backs) with him from Nebraska.
Youngstown State opens the 2015 season at Pittsburgh on Sept. 5.
