Griese suspended over ‘taco’ remark

In somewhat of a surprising move, ESPN color analyst Bob Griese has been suspended for one game for a remark he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya over the weekend.

Griese had been scheduled to work a game this weekend, although the specific game hadn’t been determined. Now, Griese won’t be working at all.

According to an ESPN spokesperson, Griese is aware of the suspension and understands that his remark was inappropriate.

During the broadcast of the Ohio State-Minnesota game, the network did a preview of the upcoming race by showing the top five drivers in the Chase. When Chris Spielman asked where my Montoya was, Griese responded that he “was out having a taco.”

Montoya downplayed the comment yesterday after the race, as did the part-owner for Montoya’s race team, Felix Sabates.
