Paper says Kelly to Irish not a done deal

Yesterday, the Chicago Tribune reported that an agreement between Notre Dame and Brian Kelly was all but a done deal, and that an official announcement could come as early Friday following Cincinnati awards banquet the previous day.

Today, however, the South Bend Tribune says not so fast my Irish-leaning friends.

Citing sources with knowledge of the search on both sides, the paper reports that there is strong interest on the part of both the Irish and the current Cincinnati head coach, but there is “hardly anything resembling a done deal.”

Additionally, and after an expected meeting didn’t take place yesterday, the Tribune reports that a meeting between the two sides could take place today. This after various reports stated that a meeting wasn’t necessary and wouldn’t take place.

Not only might Kelly interview today, but so might UConn Randy Edsall, the paper reports. Edsall and his representative have steadfastly refused to address the rumors that have flown around the Huskies coach throughout this process.

Also mentioned in this latest round of speculation were former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville and East Carolina coach Skip Holtz.

We’ve caught wind of a rumor that there might be something between Tuberville and the Irish, but as of yet have not been able to corroborate the talk.
