Masoli one of two Ducks accused in theft

Uh.

Oh.

Earlier this morning, we noted a report from the Eugene Register-Guard regarding two members of the Oregon football program possibly being involved in a theft at a campus frat house.  The paper did not reveal the names of the players involved, but the rumors were flying all around the Internet that one of the two players allegedly involved was a rather big-time member of the program.

And those rumors were indeed correct.

The Oregonian spoke to one of the victims of the alleged theft, who confirmed that the two players he believes stole property from the frat house were Jeremiah Masoli and Garrett Embry.

That would be starting quarterback and possible 2010 Heisman contender Jeremiah Masoli.

According to fraternity member Max Wolfard, Masoli and Embry, a sophomore wide receiver, were at the frat house over the weekend, a place they had been before according to Wolfard.  The pair were acting suspicious and appeared to be hiding something, and Wolfard demanded to know what they were doing.

At that point, the two players allegedly ran out of the back door of the house with Wolfard giving chase.  Wolfard ultimately caught up with Embry — where the hell’s that famous Oregon spread speed?  Caught by a frat boy? — who gave Wolfard’s projection screen back to him.

When Wolfard went back to the house, he discovered that his MacBook Pro and a guitar were missing.  Another fraternity member stated that his MacBook Pro was missing as well.  It was at that point that Wolfard called the police.

Head coach Chip Kelly will have no comment on the situation “unless there’s further substantiation.”

As noted by our pal SportsByBrooks, this wouldn’t be Masoli’s first run-in with the law.  Back in 2005, the quarterback pleaded guilty to a series of robberies in and around San Mateo, California.

Given Masoli’s past, it will be very interesting to see how Kelly and the university deals with this situation, especially as it involves arguably the most talented player on the roster.

Kelly booted LeGarrette Blount from the program for punching a player following the first game of the 2009 season, although he ultimately reinstated the running back.  If Masoli is ultimately arrested, charged and found guilty, Kelly will have no choice but to dismiss Masoli.

Permanently.

Some Division I-AA school just got lucky…

I have a hard time thinking a player could be so dumb considering how much he had to lose. Maybe my faith in humanity will be let down and Masoli really did thieve this kid’s stuff, but we’ll see.

They should have had Blount there as protection.

It is a bit shocking to think that Masoli would be so dumb as to do this. Even more shocking ( in a good way) is that you still cling to that faith in humanity. Well done.
Oh, and this is off subject. I am somewhat ashamed to admit this but…I just realized that the gang here in the college football talk ( at least a good portion of them) possesses a certain intelligence/sanity that is severely absent over in the pro football talk room.
Could this be reflective of the two fan bases as a whole?

Ironically, Masoli would have been better off taking money from boosters and agents!

Er, Wolfard was, ya know, carrying a “projection screen.”
Perhaps it was an LCD projector and not a screen? I don’t know how the hell you hide a projector screen.

This is awesome. I love seeing talent flushed away.
To touch on the differing fan bases… I think that this site doesn’t have the “credibility” (if you even want to call it that) of that of PFT. Not a lot of people know about it, and the few who do, some probably think this is a poor man’s PFT. I think that the true college football fans can gain knowledge and insight from this site. This is the one site I come to for the latest NCAAFB news.

    Masoli two time thief?
Let’s see what Kelly does if this is true. Let me see, Blount runs his mouth before the Boise State game, Boise State whips them like the runt of the litter. Blount sucker punches a player, tries to go after fans, Kelly “suspends” him, then allows him back when it’s apparent that the Ducks are gonna “quack” up with him. Now Masoli. My guess if he’s guilty? Kelly will immediately suspend him, keep him away from the team until practice starts in the fall, then “reinstate” him because “he’s learned his lesson and we don’t want to ruin the young man’s future.” What future? If he’s convicted of theft what future awaits him? 5 to 10 in the pen? No NFL team is going to be interested in a felon who can’t run a pro style offense.

If you are this desperate for money, why would you just not declare yourself eligible for the draft? It’s very difficult to feel sorry for someone being this stupid.

    What an absolute moron.

Ok so Masoli and Embry were “acting suspicious and appeared to be hiding something”? Wouldn’t you notice if someone had your guitar? A guitar is pretty dang hard to “hide”. Boy Masoli is fast if he can outrun a “frat boy” with 2 Macbook Pro’s and a guitar in his hands. Seriously though I really hope that these boys were smarter than that. They have way to much to lose to be acting so stupid.

I think you are right about him being reinstated right before the season but just so you know 5-10? More like 500 hrs community service and maybe… maybe some time served NOT during the season and when I say time I’m talking maybe 30 days or 10 weekends served… At the most
And this stuff about humanity??? You know why people think its true? Because more often then not when you look at big time players getting hit for a charge like this and its in the press its because it does happen….

What the hell is wrong with these guys. They get a college tuition paid for. They get worshipped by the student body, and have pretty much their choice of dates for a weekend.
Yet they still find the need to engage in this type of behavior. It is a shame that there is no qualifying character test to play at these big time schools. I know character does not put butts in seats and bring the money in like talent does. But with the money that is spent on scholarships for these boys you would think that they would be held to some standard.

I have followed college football all my life. I am 63 years old and during the off season there are tons of these stories where practically 90% of the offenders are these baboons that have their whole life ahead of them with foorball scholarships and they screw it up.

Eugene (KMTR) – Eugene police say two University of Oregon football players are NOT considered suspects in a theft case at a fraternity house.
Eugene police told NewsSource 16 Sunday night that Duck quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and wide receiver Garrett Embry were mentioned in a police report on the theft, but they are not considered suspects at this time.
According to police, laptop computers were taken from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house on 14th and Alder early Sunday morning.
Police did not offer further details Sunday night. EPD spokesperson Melinda Kletzok would not comment on the case Monday.

You people making comments in here are unbelievable. Neither Embry nor Masoli have been charged with anything, and acting as if they’re already guilty is presumptive and shameful.
There have been no other witness to corroborate the claims of the alleged theft victim. In fact, Eugene Police have said that Embry and Masoli are “not suspects or even persons of interest.
