Late-season push has Frazer in UConn’s QB driver seat

An end-of-the-season push that coincided with Zach Frazer being reinserted into the starting lineup had UConn head coach Randy Edsall feeling fairly certain that the fifth-year senior would be his No. 1 quarterback heading into the spring.

An offseason of stellar work in the weight room has left Edsall even more convinced that Frazer is once again his guy.

Speaking to reporters before the start of spring practice, Edsall said Frazer will sit atop the depth chart at the QB position when spring practice commences on March 16.

“I just felt that he deserves to be the No. 1 guy based on what he did at the end of the season,” Edsall said according to the Hartford Courant.

“He’s done a tremendous job this summer. He went up 53 pounds in his lifts from August, and that tells you how he works.”

Frazer, who also added ten pounds to his frame this offseason, took over the starting job when Cody Endres went down with a knee injury in the middle of the season. Frazer had opened the season as the starter but lost the job when he himself went down with an injury.

After regaining the starting job following Endres’ injury, UConn went 4-1 in Frazer’s five starts.
