Masoli, James discipline coming Friday

Just to clean up a little bit of the mess that is the Oregon football program off the field, head coach Chip Kelly released a short, terse statement yesterday evening regarding the legal situations of two of his offensive starters.

Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli will be arraigned on one count of second-degree robbery for his alleged role in a frat house theft, while running back LaMichael James will reportedly plead no contest to charges stemming from a domestic dispute.

Both players will appear in the same Eugene courtroom on Friday.

That same day, “coincidentally” enough, Kelly will mete out his school-related punishments for the players.

“I am carefully considering the latest news concerning Jeremiah Masoli and LaMichael James, and will make a decision regarding disciplinary action on Friday, March 12,” Kelly said in the statement.

At the rate Oregon players are getting arrested they will have to change the name of the university to Miami.

I always love it when people get on here like Jeff and shadowman and say they should change their name to ….indicating that those schools are lawless badlands of college football. So in fairness to the Jeff’s and Shadowman’s of the world, please enlighten all of us which schools we should admire and strive to emulate in terms of not having athletes ever get into any trouble. On first blush I sure can’t think of any school in the last 10 years that has won more than a few games that hasn’t had some sort of off the field issue. This includes schools with some obviously first rate human beings as coaches such as Georgia and Ohio State. So fire away, give us your list of all the schools that do it right.
P.S.- Please do your homework, even all three service academy teams have had scandals in the last several years.

    Interested,
I realize that all schools have their issues. But I think UF has earned their reputation with close to 30 arrests under Meyer! If UF did not have Tim Tebow they would have the same reputation as those Miami teams. Get off the soap box!
