The hits keep on coming for the interior of UCLA’s lines

This morning, UCLA fans were greeted with the news that starting offensive lineman Mike Harris, who has started the past 18 games for the Bruins, has been suspended for the season opener. Later on in the day, it was learned that starting defensive end Datone Jones could be out until at least October with a broken foot.

This evening, the Bruins have hit the personnel anti-trifecta.

Starting guard Jeff Baca, ESPNLosAngeles.com reports, has been declared academically ineligible and could miss the entire 2010 season. The junior told the website that he’s appealed to the NCAA, and there’s a chance it could be overturned before the start of the season Sept. 4.

“I’m working on an appeal and there’s just no telling what the timetable is,” said Baca. “Things happen like this and it’s unfortunate.”

Baca has started 21 games during his two years with UCLA, including all 13 as a sophomore in 2009.
