UCLA OL Baca has injury issue to go along with academic one

On Tuesday we learned that UCLA starting guard Jeff Baca might miss the entire 2010 season due to academic issues.

Two days later, Baca has yet another hurdle he must overcome if he wants to see the field this year.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Baca is suffering from a stress reaction in the fibula of his right leg. There is no timetable on when he will be able to return from the injury.

The injury is the latest setback for the lineman, who has started 21 games the past two seasons for the Bruins. Baca said earlier in the week that he is appealing being declared academically ineligible, and was hopeful the decision would be overturned before the season opener against Kansas State Sept. 4.

The injury, however, could make an appeals victory ring hollow for the junior, at least for the start of the season.
