Woolfolk’s dad: Dislocated ankle for starting Michigan CB

Unfortunately for the Michigan Wolverines and their fans, the rumors of cornerback Troy Woolfolk suffering a severe ankle injury were indeed true.

Speaking to Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press, Woolfolk’s father said that his son had a dislocated ankle that had to be reset. Obviously, the possibility also exists that Woolfolk sustained some ligament damage.

No decision has been made for surgery, nor has there been any early timeline established for Woolfolk’s return.

Former USC and, once he clears waivers and goes on injured reserve, current Tennessee Titans running back Stafon Johnson suffered a dislocated ankle during a preseason game Saturday night; the prognosis for Johnson’s recovery was 8-12 weeks.

The low end of that timeline if the injuries are similar would put Woolfolk back on the field the second week of October.

UPDATED 10:01 p.m. ET: According to Angelique Chengalis of the Detroit News, Woolfolk also suffered a broken fibula in what was described as a non-contact injury. Doctors are awaiting the swelling in the area to go down before performing surgery.

In a text to his father Butch Woolfolk, the defensive back indicated he would not be returning this year.

“Daddy, you wouldn’t believe this. You have to call me right away. My season is over.”

If true, and the injury is indeed season-ending, it’s a devastating blow to a Wolverines squad already beyond thin in the secondary.
