Purdue loses Marve to season-ending ACL tear

A day after Robert Marve went down with what looked to be a fairly significant injury, head coach Danny Hope said that the prognosis was “not really encouraging”.

Unfortunately for the Boilermakers, that’s proven correct.

According to a press release issued by the school, Marve suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during Saturday’s loss to Toledo and will miss the remainder of the year. A team orthopedist confirmed the injury Thursday.

“Robert Marve is a big part of our football family, he has worked extremely hard to be the great player that he is and our heart goes out to him,” Hope said in a statement. “Boilermaker Nation will rally behind him with all of its support through this tough time. I know he will continue to be an inspiration to his teammates and fans.”

Redshirt freshman Rob Henry will replace the junior in the starting lineup and will get his first career start a week from Saturday on the road against unbeaten Northwestern.

Marve, who was in his first season as Purdue’s starter after transferring from Miami (Fla.), completed nearly 68 percent of his passes, with three touchdowns and four interceptions, in his four starts.
