OVI charge behind starting Spartans CB Rucker’s suspension

Sunday night, Michigan State announced that starting cornerback Chris Rucker had received at least a one-game suspension for violating unspecified team rules.

Tuesday afternoon, we learned that one of the Spartans’ team rules does not permit operating a motor vehicle while not sober.

According to multiple reports, Rucker was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Rucker was arrested at 2:19 a.m. ET and also issued a warning for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Rucker’s BAC was .10; the legal limit is .08.

The senior will not play against Illinois Saturday, and head coach Mark Dantonio has given no indication as to when the suspension will be lifted.

Rucker has started all six games this season after starting 11 games in 2009. All told, the senior has started 30 games in his MSU career.
