Well, so much for Greg Davis shooting down reports that he’s resigned.
Less than 24 hours after the latest round of reports emerged that Davis was out as Texas’ offensive coordinator, both the Associated Press and Austin American-Statesman are reporting that Davis has stepped down from his position on Mack Brown’s coaching staff.
Texas spokesman John Bianco confirmed to both media outlets that Davis has indeed resigned.
In addition to Davis’ resignation, offensive line coach Mac McWhorter and defensive line coachMike Tolleson have retired.
Replacements for the three coaches are not expected to be announced until after the bowls are complete. The Longhorns, of course, will not be a part of the postseason for the first time since 1997.
To be clear, Tolleson was the defensive tackles and special teams coach. He wasn’t bad with the DTs at all, as he coached some great players who have played in the NFL (Casey Hampton, Shaun Rogers, Marcus Tubbs, Lamar Houston, Derek Lokey, and more). But the position has struggled a little, and of course STs really fell off a lot this past year.
A lot of this has to do with injecting new blood that Muschamp will want to have around after Mack retires.
The retirements / resignation had to be, given the degree of ineptness of the offense and special teams this year. Furthermore, there was no reason to expect any improvement next season without the mentioned changes.
not gonna do it this time, John.
That’s good drexelvol. It’s annoying.
lol @drexelvol
@jsdriscoll – So is the fact that you’re a Texas fan, but I’m not posting about it.
