Denard Robinson mum on whether he would stay if RichRod goes

The blast furnace that’s under the hot seat Rich Rodriguez‘s backside currently resides on is running at full capacity following an embarrassing beating at the hands of Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl.

Rumors -- repeat, rumors -- are already flying that Rodriguez’s fate was officially sealed with the loss and he will be fired as early as Monday.

If Michigan wants to keep their best player on either side of the ball, however, they may want to reconsider if the boot’s the direction they’re headed.

Speaking to the press following the bowl game, quarterback Denard Robinson was asked point-blank if he would be playing for the Wolverines if Rodriguez is dismissed.

No response,” Robinson said according to the Detroit News.

“That’s my coach, that’s who recruited me,” Robinson said when asked how he would feel if RichRod were canned. “That’s it.”

Obviously, an athletic director cannot base such a monumental decision as firing a head coach on the wishes and desires of a football player. However, player attrition could be part of the collateral damage if/when RichRod is fired.

Then again, if that attrition came from the defensive side of the ball, it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing, right?
